Holiday Cheer- A Hamlet Tradition

Let Holiday Cheer light up the season.
When we choose kindness and generosity, the glow of community becomes a little brighter for everyone.

Join neighbors and friends for a simple, heartfelt gathering that honors connection and tradition. Adorn the community tree with your handcrafted, natural ornaments, savor cozy cider from Troop 4, enjoy treats from Sweet Moments Baking, warm up with cocoa from Jim’s Deli, and take in the holiday cheer shared by the Brookhaven Free Library, and Karin Wagner and friends.

It’s a moment to pause, breathe, and make memories that feel both gentle and lasting with  memories made.

Together, we can extend compassion through our collection drives in support of all creatures and quietly celebrate the true meaning of the season with the care we offer one another.

We hope you’ll join us on Saturday, December 13, from 3–5pm at Fire Place Park(located at South Country Road and Fire Place Neck Road).
Rain date: Sunday, 12/14, same time.

2025 Marina Closing

A message from our Dockmaster

Hello All Boaters.

The 2025 closing date for Squassux Marina is November 15.  Please remove all lines, bumpers and hoses. Water will be turned off around the 15th and the  lights several weeks after. Gate PINS will be deactivated for the winter.

Winter moorage is available on Carmans river. Please text the dockmaster phone and leave your name and current slip number to receive a slip assignment and an invoice for the winter season.

If you would like to store your non-motorized vessel for the winter, please email bvamail@brookhavenvillageassocition.org

The ice eater install party will be scheduled for early December based on the best weather forecasted during that time frame. In order to plan to participate in installing the ice eaters the BVA will email a specific time and day a week in advance with a possible rain date as well.

If you no longer need a slip for the next season, please text the dockmaster phone so slips may be filled. And, if you are upsizing or down sizing, please text the dockmaster so that the best accommodations can be arranged for 2026.

Please note that only fully completed invoices returned next year by March 1 will guarantee a slip.  This includes  an up to date pic of the current registration and payment in full by the invoice due date. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.

Regards,

Andy Dockmaster 631-819-4151

Squassux Shoreline Preservation Project Community Letters of Support Campaign

Dear Hamlet Community

As highlighted in the Spring edition of the Fire Place  (pdf version attached),  our community newsletter, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Brookhaven Village Association’s stewardship of Squassux Landing—a vital piece of our Hamlet’s natural and cultural heritage.

To protect this treasured place, the Town of Brookhaven is reviewing plans to install a low sill bulkhead along Arthur’s Creek and the Carmans River—our Shoreline Preservation Project. The Town is requesting letters of support from the community to help move the project forward. Years in development under the advisement of environmental consultants, this initiative now needs your voice. Your support can make a real difference.

Even if you’ve never set foot on a boat, Squassux is a treasure that belongs to all of us in the Hamlet—a sanctuary of natural beauty and a living testament to our shared history, quietly holding the stories of generations past and future. It asks only for our care in return. We invite you and all Hamlet residents to join us in preserving this sacred place.

For your convenience, please feel free to use one of the template letters below—simply cut and paste, fill in your information, email it back to us at the link located at the very bottom of the post, and we will print and submit your letter to the Town on your behalf.

If you would like to learn more about the project, please see the 2024 project proposal from Cole Environmental made to our community and the most current low sill bulkhead plans below. We welcome thoughts, suggestions and questions.

To Whom It May Concern,

As a  community member of Brookhaven Hamlet, I am writing to express my full support for the recommended project of installing a low sill bulkhead at Squassux Landing Marina. The evidence of erosion over time is very clear, and the protective embankment is significantly compromised.

Projections of rising tides show the shoreline will likely continue to recede more rapidly without proper intervention. The proposed low sill bulkhead is an environmentally friendly, effective, and much-needed solution.

The basin has historically been maintained with great care to preserve its ecological balance, and this project will help ensure its continued health and sustainability for the future.

Thank you for considering my support for this important initiative for our community.

Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern,

As a longtime community resident of Brookhaven Hamlet, I fully support the recommended project of low sill bulk heading at Squassux boat basin. The evidence of erosion over time is very obvious. The protective embankment is incredibly compromised and with the world’s environmental challenges, will only recede more quickly without intervention. This protective solution of low sill bulkhead is environmentally-friendly, effective, and very necessary. The basin has always been maintained in an eco-friendly way and this proposed project will help to ensure a healthy future.

Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to express my strong support for the Brookhaven Village Association’s initiative to preserve our community’s treasured gift, Squassux Marina with the low-sill bulk heading project.

Squassux Landing holds a special place in the hearts of generations of Brookhaven Hamlet families who have discovered the beauty of nature along its shores, celebrated at the annual Squassux Fairs, and found peace watching eagles return over the river. It has become a vital hub for community connection, recreation, and represents the very best of South Shore living.

However, rising tides and eroding shorelines pose real and urgent environmental threats to this beloved natural space. The preservation project is a crucial long-term effort to protect the integrity and natural beauty of Squassux Landing, ensuring it remains a sanctuary for current residents and generations yet to come.

I wholeheartedly support this vital project and commend the community for their dedication in preserving our community’s heritage and environment.

Thank you for your attention and consideration.

Sincerely,
