Following are some of the ways the BVA enhances life in
the Hamlet:
The
Brookhaven Village Association has offered a scholarship since 1978 to
an outstanding graduating senior who resides in Brookhaven Hamlet and
who plans on continuing his or her education. Several years ago the
award was rededicated in the memory of former BVA member Virginia
Brown. The $1000 scholarship is presented annually at the Bellport High
School Senior Awards night usually held in June.
The
Puleston Environmental Fund is named in memory of Brookhaven resident,
naturalist Dennis Puleston. Funds are used to aid in the preservation
of the natural beauties of Brookhaven Village and the surrounding areas.
The
BVA plants a variety of trees each year throughout the community. Trees
native to Long Island are given priority over other species, yet a
variety of trees are planted as to improve diversity. Since its
inception in 2001, over sixty trees have been planted in the Hamlet
