About the BVA

The BVA Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM at the Post Morrow Annex located at 16 Bay Road in Brookhaven. Meetings are open to the public.

The object of the Brookhaven Village Association is to aid in the preservation of the natural beauties of Brookhaven Hamlet; to encourage and assist in all improvements pertaining to public welfare; to cooperate with public officials in the faithful performance of their duties; and to guard, in every way, the interests of the residents of Brookhaven Hamlet. The BVA enhances Brookhaven Hamlet through its sponsorship of:

  • The Virginia Brown Scholarship Fund. The Brookhaven Village Association has offered a scholarship since 1978 to an outstanding graduating senior who resides in Brookhaven Hamlet and who plans on continuing his or her education. Several years ago the award was rededicated in the memory of former BVA member Virginia Brown. The $1000 scholarship is presented annually at the Bellport High School Senior Awards night usually held in June.

  • The Dennis Puleston Environmental Fund is named in memory of Brookhaven resident, naturalist Dennis Puleston. Funds are used to aid in the preservation of the natural beauties of Brookhaven Village and the surrounding areas.

  • The BVA Tree Fund plants a variety of trees each year throughout the community. Trees native to Long Island are given priority over other species, yet a variety of trees are planted as to improve diversity. Please click here for our tree map.  Do you have a suggestion for a tree planting within the Hamlet?  Contact the BVA Tree Chairperson. Click here.

  • Brookhaven Hamlet harbors 16 historic cemeteries that are the resting places of the early settlers of The Fire Place, as our community was originally called. In 2007, the Fire Place History Club began to restore these cemeteries by locating, identifying and repairing the gravestones. In support of these efforts by the club’s dedicated volunteers, the BVA has established the Cemetery Preservation Fund.  For information on the historic cemeteries in Brookhaven Hamlet, please  visit this link Historic Cemeteries
